_HERITAGE WALK_

Heritage walk helps us to understand our history and the ancestry that binds us together, at the same time, being an integral part of our present, and of our future…

India is a pictorial kaleidoscope of beautiful landscapes and rich cultural heritage spread throughout its opulent historical and royal cities that has been contributed by different people and races over the period of time. Culture and heritage plays an important role in building an economically sustainable and cohesive country and need a special focus for promotion and preservation. SPIC MACAY aims to preserve the rich heritage of our country, so that it can be passed on the generations to come by organizing heritage walk module.

The urban living makes the all the cities too familiar to notice anything extraordinary about it. People pass by the beautiful heritage buildings every day in a hurry to reach their offices or schools without noticing them. Heritage of a city communicates the history of that place. Heritage walk is a tool to explore the unexplored and neglected richness of the country. It plays an important role for the development of history and character of the city through generating interests and involvement of the local community in the urban conservation activity.

Hampi-Heritage Walk

Located in Karnataka near the modern-era city of HosapeteThe Hampi monuments comprising the UNESCO world heritage site are a subset of the wider-spread Vijayanagara ruins. Almost all of the monuments were built between 1336 and 1570 CE during the Vijayanagara rule. The site has about 1,600 monuments and covers 41.5 square kilometres (16.0 sq mi).

The Hampi site has been studied in three broad zones; the first has been named the "sacred centre" by scholars such as Burton Stein and othersl; the second is referred to as the "urban core" or the "royal centre"; and the third constitutes the rest of metropolitan Vijayanagara. The sacred centre, alongside the river, contains the oldest temples with a history of pilgrimage and monuments pre-dating the Vijayanagara empire. The urban core and royal centre have over sixty ruined temples beyond those in the sacred centre, but the temples in the urban core are all dated to the Vijayanagara empire. The urban core also includes public utility infrastructure such as roads, an aqueduct, water tanks, mandapa, gateways and markets, monasteries. This distinction has been assisted by some seventy-seven stone inscriptions

Places we visited at Hampi

The Musical Pillars..!!

The Musical Pillars of Vittala Temple. The large Ranga Mantapa is well-known for its 56 musical pillars, also known as SaReGaMa pillars. These have been attributed to the musical notes rising out of them. One can actually hear the musical notes if they tap the pillars gently.

The Stone Chariot..!!

The chariot is actually a shrine dedicated to Garuda, built inside the Vittala Temple Complex. The massive sculpture of Garuda, Lord Vishnu’s escort once was seated atop the chariot but it is empty at the present date.

Virupaksha Temple..!!

The Virupaksha temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, known here as Virupaksha/Pampa pathi, as the consort of the local goddess Pampadevi who is associated with the Tungabhadra River.

Lotus Mahal..!!

Lotus Mahal is one of the fine architectural designed palaces that are uniquely identified by its lotus look like structure. This glorious building is within the Zenana Enclosure, a segregated area that is used by the royal women of Vijayanagara Dynasty.

Yantrodharaka Temple..!!

The Yantrodharaka Hanuman Temple, is a temple dedicated to Hanuman which is situated in the town of Hampi, Karnataka, India. The shrine of Yantrodaraka Hanuman was eulogised by Vyasaraya a Madhva saint.

Kodanda Rama Temple..!!

As the name indicates, the Kodanda Rama temple is dedicated to the Lord Rama. The inner sanctum of the temple has huge idols of Lord Rama, his brother Laxmana and his wife Sita. The statues of the idols were carved out from a single natural boulder. The historic temple is believed to mark the spot where Rama had crowned the monkey king Sugriva.
